Read the Quran: Arabic and translation, your place, khatm
In Virdim's Quran tab you read the Quran cover to cover, juz by juz: the Arabic, the translation or both together. Mark the verse you reached, and Virdim keeps your place, your khatm progress and your daily page goal. Juz 1 is free; the whole Quran comes with Virdim Plus.
Where to open it
- The Quran tab: the khatm card at the top, then the Surahs or Juz list. Each surah shows how much of it you have read.
- The Quran card on the Today tab: Continue takes you to your place; if you haven't started, Start with Al-Fatiha.
- Read in the surah on the verse of the day: opens the verse inside its surah.
The reading screen
- View: "Arabic and translation", "Arabic only" or "Translation only".
- Text size: make it smaller or larger.
- Juz starts and page numbers appear in the text (the 604-page layout); verses of prostration are marked.
- At the end of a surah, Next surah takes you on.
Your place and khatm
- Tap the bookmark next to the last verse you read: I read up to here.
- The khatm card shows your place, juz and page (such as "Page 23 / 604") and your khatm progress.
- Moving back, or more than 20 pages ahead, asks you to confirm, so a stray tap doesn't lose your progress.
- At the last verse it says "You completed the Quran". Start a new khatm adds one to your khatm count and takes your place back to Al-Fatiha.
Daily page goal
On the khatm card, Set a daily goal lets you choose 1, 2, 5, 10 or 20 pages a day. The card then shows, for example, "Today 3 / 5 pages". Pages count as your place moves forward; reading time is not measured.
Which text and which translation?
- Arabic text: Tanzil Project, Uthmani text (version 1.1), unchanged. The surah, juz and page layout is from Tanzil's Quran metadata.
- English translation: Marmaduke Pickthall, The Meaning of the Glorious Koran, London 1930. The wording of the 1930 edition is used. Public domain.
- Turkish translation: Elmalılı M. Hamdi Yazır, Hak Dini Kur'an Dili, Istanbul 1935–38. The translation and its 1935 spelling are unchanged. Three copies (kuranmeali.com, the 2007 e-text of the commentary, the 2014 Özalp edition) were compared; typesetting errors in the digital copies, shifted verse numbers and Arabic quotations written out in Latin letters were corrected. For four verses missing from the translation (An-Nisa 145, Ash-Shu'ara 226, Az-Zukhruf 64, Al-Qalam 16), the text is Elmalılı's own rendering from his commentary. Public domain.
The translation follows Content language in Settings: Pickthall in English, Elmalılı in Turkish. No commentary, tafsir or notes are added. The sources are shown in the app below the reading screen and under Settings → Sources and licenses.
Free and Plus
Juz 1 (Al-Fatiha and Al-Baqarah 1–141) is free, and your place and khatm progress work in this part too. Juz 2–30 come with Virdim Plus: $4.99 a week or $39.99 a year in the US; prices vary by country. Below Al-Baqarah 141 the app says "Juz 1 is free. The whole Quran opens with Virdim Plus."; your place and khatm progress are kept. Quran reading arrived in 1.2, so juz 2–30 are part of Plus for users from before 1.2 too.
Questions
Do I need an internet connection?
No. The Arabic text and the translations are bundled in the app.
Is my reading sent anywhere?
No. Your place, khatm count and daily goal are kept only on your phone and are not part of the usage statistics. There is no account and no server. Details in the privacy policy.
Is there audio, search or bookmarks?
No. Virdim does not play recitation and has no search in the text; it keeps a single "your place".
